“Change for Chicks!” – Faith’s Sunday School kids from ages K-5th grade are sponsoring their Lenten/Spring Project: Change for Chicks! Please have a look at their new “Kid’s Corner” in the Fellowship Hall! The kids will be so excited if you leave behind a gift of some coins in their little chick-bank to help them purchase a flock of chicks (or several flocks) at $20/flock to give to a family in need through the ministry of Heifer International. The kids are learning about world hunger.

Bring your lunch along and join the discussion as we read through the book of First John in the New Testament.

St. Paddy’s Day Party! – that was held last Friday night was a great success! We wish to thank our generous hosts Kim and Dave Hoffman, and Bob and Phyllis Schott for preparing the corned beef and cabbage. Thanks also to the members of Fun & Fellowship for helping to provide the congregation with some fun ways to fellowship!

Maundy Thursday Soup Supper – Faith’s Fun & Fellowship crew invites you to join in the preparation for our Holy Week observations, beginning with Maundy Thursday’s Soup Supper on Thursday, March 28, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Our dinner will be followed by an evening worship service at 7:00 p.m. which will include Foot Washing, for those who wish to participate.

We wish to thank everyone who participated in the fundraising effort, with a special thanks to Ellen Simms and the Mustard Seeds disciple group for bringing this opportunity to help others in need to our attention. Our gifts will support “Church World Service” and their blanket warehouse. Your gifts are greatly appreciated and will be put to emergency use ASAP!

    Something To Think About

Can you do the things Jesus does? Can I?
Yes! Because Jesus went to the Father and there with his Father, he does greater things than he did when he was in the world. He does them through you and me!
Lord Jesus, thank you that you are willing to work through us.
    What a tremendous privilege!

Healing Hands & Prayer Ministry -- Meeting Faith’s Healing & Prayer Ministry will host its third “Lunch & Learn” session just after Easter, on Sunday, April 7, just after the second worship service at 12:15 p.m. This will be the next installment of lessons on Prayer and Healing.  We’ll meet in the Fellowship Hall over a light lunch. You don’t have to have been to other sessions to come to this one; ALL ARE WELCOME! Lou Schaffer will be providing a brief video to help guide our discussion. If you have questions from your last set of handouts, please bring them along. We are very excited about the growing interest at Faith in the Healing Ministries of the church!

Adult Discussion Topic Today – We will continue our exploration of World Religions today at 10:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Pastor Greg will help us take a look at another world religion and by so doing gain a deeper appreciation of our own faith.
Narrative Lectionary Readings for Next Week:
    Sunday, March 24 (Palm/Passion Sunday)
    Reading: Psalm 118:19-23
    Gospel: Luke 19:29-44

Pastor’s schedule is most available on Wednesdays and Thursdays (9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.).  Let us know what works best for you!

Sock Hop by Gilchrist – will be held on Saturday, April 20, from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. Tickets are $35/person and can be ordered at gilchrishospice.org/sockhop. The Prayers for the Week of March 17, 2013:

Lord Jesus, guide me in living a life of faith and trust.  Amen.

Please note that privacy restrictions require you to have the personal approval of anyone whose name you request to be included on the prayer list.  When you add a name you assume the responsibility for that person’s approval which is why you must include your name on the Yellow Sheet.  Because we believe that it is a privilege to lift up the needs of others in prayer, today and this week, we pray for those listed below.  All names on the list will be prayed for over the next four weeks, unless otherwise notified.  If you want someone to remain on the list beyond that time, please fill out another “Yellow Sheet.”  We appreciate your help in making our efforts more efficient and remind you that the Lord not only commands us to pray, but also promises to hear us.

to purge us, and to create in us clean hearts.

    Sunday, February 10, 2013

    Announcements

Ash Wednesday Soup Supper and Service – Yes, it’s that time again, to come together over a meal and then worship together to start the season of Lent. Our Soup Supper will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by our worship service at 7:00 p.m. Please sign up in the Narthex to let us know what you can bring: soup, bread, a dessert? Or just bring “yourself” is fine, too! We are looking forward to a reflective and meaningful time together. All are welcome to join in the meal and service! Invite a friend.

Our Next Healing Hands & Prayer Ministry Meeting  Faith’s Healing & Prayer Ministry will host its second ‘lunch & learn’ session just after the second worship service on Sunday, Feb. 24! This will be the next installment of lessons on Prayer and Healing.  We’ll meet in the Fellowship Hall over a light lunch, as we did last time. You don’t have to have been at the first session to come to the second; ALL ARE WELCOME! Lou Schaffer will be providing a new set of handouts for further understanding and encouragement, along with a brief video. If you have questions from your last set of handouts, please bring them along.  We are very excited about the growing interest at Faith in the Healing Ministries of the church.

Hope Totes – The first 50 bags went out the door like hotcakes! Thus, 42 more bags have been placed under the tri-board in the Narthex for you to take home today! All the articles collected are for homeless men at the Helping Up Mission! Each bag contains a list of needed toiletries. Please return all filled bags to Faith’s Narthex by the end of February. Faith is now hoping to collect a total of 50 +42 = 92 bags! Your generous support is just awesome! Thanks also to the Thursday Night Group members for initiating this Action Team. You guys are awesome, too!

    Something To Think About

    A Word from Marin Luther
The words “given for you” and
“shed for you for the forgiveness of sin” show us that forgiveness of sin, life, and salvation are given to us in the sacrament through these words, because where there is forgiveness of sin, there is also life and salvation.
    (ELW, p. 1166)

“Blankets of LOVE” – Starting TODAY! Please make a gift of $5 a blanket to our Annual Blanket Drive.  During this Valentine’s Month of LOVE, please share some love with those in areas devastated by floods, earthquakes, and other natural disasters. You may make your check out to Faith Lutheran Church and mark “Blankets” in the memo. At the end of the month, we will let everyone know how much has been collected to support the “Church World Service” and their blanket warehouse. There are fliers to learn more about this charitable program in the Narthex, as well as “Blanket” donation envelopes.  Please help yourselves today!

Fun & Fellowship 2013 Events! – This year’s list of outstanding social events is posted on Faith’s website at www.FaithChurchToday.org. Look for this year’s listing of fun and fellowship events to draw us together, sometimes within the church building and sometimes outside at a family’s home.  Either way, always a good time is had by all!  We invite you to join us!

Chocolate, Wine and Cheese! – This delicious event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 6:00 p.m. at the home of Shan and Mark Carroll. Join us in a little wine-tasting by bringing one of your favorites to share (please have label covered). Or share a cheese-themed appetizer or a chocolate-themed dessert. It’s loads of fun! Invite a friend along, too! Please add your name to the sign-up sheet in the Narthex. The more the merrier!

    Something To Think About

    God’s purpose.  God’s plan.
The great dance, the ancient harmonies, weaving and interweaving to make the pattern perfect.

    Something To Think About

The principle reason we gather each Sunday in churches
is to be a community of praise.
We come first to give, not receive.
We come to worship, before we come to want.
When we join our voices together in praises sung from the heart, the harmony is that of heaven,
    and we can be transformed.

Fun & Fellowship Meeting – will be Monday, Jan. 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Reenie and Jerry Waller. Anyone is welcome to come and help us plan for more fun events this year!

Chocolate, Wine and Cheese! – will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 6:00 p.m. at the home of Shan and Mark Carroll. Join us in a little wine-tasting by bringing one of your favorites to share.  Or share a cheese-themed appetizer or a chocolate-themed dessert.  It’s loads of fun! Invite a friend along, too! Please see the sign-up sheet in the Narthex in the week ahead.

Ladies’ Bible Study – will be meeting next Monday, Jan. 28, at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Gloria Mohr. Please give her a call if you plan to attend. All women are welcome to join in this group.  We use the Bible study from Gather magazine, and have extra copies available in the Narthex.
